Anyone who is positive, works well with others, has something to contribute and possesses a natural affection for the people we are trying to help (poor children and abandoned mothers). Cost of Volunteering
|
There is no cost to register as a volunteer
with us. All volunteers pay a fee in the amount of €360 per month (or
any part of a month). This is used for development, including
recruitment and opening new projects and has no relationship to room
and board, which are free. Your entire fee must be paid in advance not
less than one month before your arrival. *Note:
If you apply and are accepted to volunteer for a term beginning three
months or more from the time of your application, you must immediately
send a deposit of €100: which will be deducted from the amount or
your required prepayment - please go here
for details. We are self sustaining, are all
volunteers and do not rely on government or institutional support. At
least two weeks before you arrive you must email us confirming your
arrival date and travel arrangements, and your contribution must be
received not less than one month before your arrival for your volunteer
place to be valid (the maximum prepayment required for long-term volunteers
is the first three months fee). There are no refunds. * The down side
on not applying well in advance is that there may not be any places
open when you would like to come, or at least not in the program in
which you would most lie to serve - but do try anyway (there are always
some last minute openings). Here are some suggestions on getting Sponsored.. |

First breakfast here at our little campus, then the daily session on our internet (which continues on and off all day depending on when there are PC classes for children or the PCs are being used for project development - free: minimum 1/2 hour per day). The volunteer goes to the parks and principal intersections in the city center to meet street children who come in from the barrios to sell sweets, shine shoes, wash cars, beg or steal. The volunteer befriends them: invites them to come eat with us for free. Also, if the children have medical or dental problems (as practically all have), informs them where and when we offer free medical and dental services. At lunchtime receives the children invited in the morning and introduces them to other volunteers, the social worker, psychologist and if necessary to the doctor or dentist as well as to other children. Lunch with the other volunteers, free time or a bit of play with children who are not in school in the afternoon, then the volunteer teaches a one hour course in a familiar subject (optional). In the late afternoon the volunteer works on development projects either in the office or in the field. The day ends for some with the night meal, 6:00 - 8:00 PM, others teach language courses until 8:00 or 9:00 PM. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
